I love stone. When I was working on my first landscape assignment–a large park on a landfill site with no natural stone to speak of–I found my self studying the stone outcroppings of Central Park. I took great pleasure in this activity as the stone of Central Park is spectacular. Studying the Manhattan Prong, I discovered the secret of all those masterful Asian scroll paintings: they weren’t painting the actual mountains. They were painting the stones that made up the mountains–which I suppose is one and the same.
